So, How Old Are Those "Malcolm in the Middle" Kids Anyway?

You know, I was watching an old episode of Malcolm in the Middle the other day, and it got me thinking. I mean, I've seen every episode at least a dozen times, but this time, I couldn't help but wonder, just how old are these kids supposed to be? I mean, they're not exactly the most typical teenagers on TV, right?

I mean, take Malcolm himself. He's the brains of the family, always getting into these crazy schemes, but he's also this little kid at heart. I always thought he was supposed to be around 14 or 15, but who knows? The show never really gives us a straight answer.

And don't even get me started on his brothers. Reese, the tough guy, is he like, 16? 17? And what about Dewey? He's the youngest, right? But he's always doing these really mature things. It's all so confusing!

So, I decided to do a little digging. You know, for science. And I found out some interesting stuff. Apparently, the show was set in the late 90s, early 2000s. But the actors? They were all older than their characters. Like, way older.

Take Francis, for example. He's supposed to be the eldest, right? But when the show started, Christopher Masterson, the actor who plays him, was already 21. I mean, can you imagine being a college student and playing a high school dropout?

And get this, by the time the show ended, Masterson was in his mid-30s. I mean, that's like, older than my dad. It's crazy, right?

Anyway, I could go on and on about this. But I think you get the picture. The actors on Malcolm in the Middle were all older than their characters. And that's what makes the show so great. I mean, can you imagine if they had actually cast kids who were the same age as their characters? It would have been a totally different show.
