Buying a selfie mirror (or any photo booth) is an investment, and you need to know that you are choosing the right booth for you, and the right company to work with.

Here are a few of our top tips for making sure you get the best deal on your magic mirror!

Price
It pays to drive a bargain, but you need to make sure you are getting value for money. Whilst the cheapest booth on the market may be a tempting deal, there’s a reason it has been priced at that level and you need to make sure it meets your needs.
If a certain vendor charges more or less than the competition, you need to find out why. What differentiates their booths from the competition and why are they charging that amount? If they don’t have a good answer to your question, it’s not a great sign!

Range of booths
Consider the markets you will be targeting before looking at booths. When browsing the booths, rather than looking only at what appeals to you, consider what your target market will like. There is no point in spending money on a traditional photo booth if everyone in your market is searching for a selfie mirror.
Look at the range of booths that each vendor offers, more booths indicates that they have been in the industry for a while and can offer booths that will give you more options and may be more targeted towards your target market as your business grows.

Packages
If you already have photography equipment, then it doesn’t make sense for you to have to re-buy everything. Check out the packages the vendor has on sale, do they have options that will let you add your own hardware?
Alternatively, if you want the full package so you can set-up and get going with events straight away, do they have packages that include everything, so you don’t have to buy anything extra?
You should only have to purchase what you need!

Support + training
Check with the vendor about what kind of training and support they will offer after purchase. Getting a new photo booth up and running can be a daunting task, so having training with the booth and the software is important to get used to the booth.
Check whether ongoing training is free – if you add more staff later for example.
As well as this, support is key. If worse comes to worse and you have an issue with a booth at an event, it’s a weight off your mind to know that you have a support net that you can call. Keep in mind that most of your events probably won’t be running in office hours, so check when you will be able to access their support too!
And don’t accept “including 24 hours support” as being the answer. Drill down and ask how many support technicians they have, whether the sales person is the support person or whether there is dedicated technical support or whether the 3am support person is nursing a coffee in Europe or wide awake in a different time zone ready to support you.

Knowledge
Make sure that the company you choose to deal with have a good knowledge of the photo booth industry. Ask them questions to gauge their knowledge and make sure they can prove their successes with things like case studies, customer testimonials and reviews. This indicates that they will produce good quality photo booths and selfie mirrors that will appeal to your customers.

Add-ons
Adaptability is key. You can generate more revenue by adding extras to your photo booth or mirror, so having options is great. Are you able to add features such as video recording, gif recording, green screen and bespoke user experiences?
These are things that could make a big difference when pitching the booth to your clients.

Updates
The industry moves fast, and new booths and features are emerging all the time. Will your booth and software stay up to date with new features and updates? Does the vendor listen to what their existing customers are asking for when building their booths?

Reliability
As in any industry, some photo booths and mirrors are more stable and durable than others. Check that the vendor you are looking to invest with have a good track record. Can you speak to existing customers or have a look at customer testimonials?
Make sure you’re getting the best value for your money.

Marketing materials
Generating bookings for your magic mirror or other photo booth is crucial when you are just getting started. Find out if the manufacturer or vendor offers marketing materials to help you promote what will be your new booth. Some will provide these materials before you receive the booth, so you can begin generating booking. Definitely something to consider!
